The Tichenor Family History The Tichenor
family in America can be said to have originated in New Jersey, although
Martin Tichenor was in New Haven Colony as early as 1644 before becoming
one of the original settlers in Newark in 1666. New Jersey was the home
of most Tichenors, if not all, until after the American Revolution.
After the Revolution there were Tichenors in the major migrations from
the colonies north and west, and Tichenors were soon found in upstate
Newark, Maryland, Vermont, Ohio, Kentucky, and Virginia (later West
Virginia). Migrations from these states were soon made to Michigan,
Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, and other states. Missouri, Texas, California
and Oregon had Tichenor residents in their early history. Today there
are few states, if any that do not have a Tichenor resident. Whether
staying in New Jersey or moving to other states, Tichenors left their
traces in the deeds to their property, marriages, wills and other county
records, the census, church records and elsewhere, all of which are
grist for the genealogists. Some families made "family trees"
or family genealogies limited to their family line. These made a valuable
addition to my research. Some families did not keep a record. Research
has revealed the connections of some of these families to Martin Tichenor.
For some the connection has not been found. Tichenor Families in
America contains families whose connection are not known, and contains
all Tichenor families for whom there is data in my collection, unless
there are good reasons to believe they are not connected. For information on how to use Tichenor Families in America, click here. For a list
