The Tichenor Genealogical Collection

While I do not plan to publish again and I am no longer actively engaged in genealogical research, I do maintain the Tichenor genealogical collection. It contains, of course, the material collected over a period of fourteen years for Tichenor Families in America. It also contains material sent to me since the book was published in 1988. As people who were not on my mailing list have discovered the book, some have sent their family data to me. Some of this makes a known addition to the book while some does not. For the later there is always the possibility that the connection will some day be found.

The purpose of maintaining the collection is to make it available to the next person who takes on the job of revising and publishing the Tichenor genealogy. Perhaps someone in the next generation or so will do it. If so, my heirs will make the collection available to him/her.

You May submit you family data to the collection, either as an addition to Tichenor Families in America, or a family line whose connection is not known. If the former, please indicate the page to which it is an addition. Please send it typed by US mail to Harold A. Tichenor, Rt. 4, Box 1016, Napton, MO 65340 or email it to hitch@cdsinet.net

A good deal of additional research will be required for a revision. I did not collect everything available. I simply had to stop research if I were ever going to get the book published. The Internet makes some research easier than in the past, but for some items there will be no substitute for traveling to get it or hiring professional researchers.

I have begun, but do not know if I can finish, putting my card files of primary data (wills, estates, marriages, census, etc.) in a searchable computer file. It will have cross-indexing that the card file does not. The census records, for example, are indexed only under the head of household. In the computer file all names will be indexed, a considerable advantages. Much of this is in my book Tichenor Families in America, but enough of is not that it is still worthwhile source for research. This is about one fourth accomplished at this time. I hope, but do not promise, to finish it.
